5 practical ways to reduce packaging line downtime
Most line stoppages come from a handful of repeat causes. Here's the maintenance and design checklist we use.

- Track stoppages by root cause for two weeks. You'll usually find 80% of downtime comes from 4–5 issues — film tracking, sealing jaw temperature drift, sensor misalignment, label jams, or coder errors.
- Standardise wear-part replacement intervals. Cutting blades, sealing jaws and tension belts have predictable lives — replace on schedule, not on failure.

Train operators on the top three reset procedures. A 30-second reset by a confident operator beats a 30-minute call to maintenance.
Keep a small on-site spares kit. Three rollers, two sealing jaws, a spare motor and common PLC modules cover most emergencies and easily pay for themselves in one prevented day of downtime.
