VFFS vs pre-made pouch: which packaging route fits you?
Form-fill-seal lines and pre-made pouch fillers solve similar problems differently. Here's how to decide.
- VFFS (Vertical Form-Fill-Seal) machines form the pouch from a film roll, fill it, and seal it in one motion. Pre-made pouch fillers, in contrast, open ready-made pouches and fill them on a rotary indexer.
- VFFS wins on cost-per-pouch and speed for high-volume SKUs. Film rolls are cheaper than pre-made pouches, and modern servo-driven VFFS machines run 60–120 pouches/min comfortably.

Pre-made pouch is a better fit for premium pouches with zippers, spouts or custom shapes — and for smaller batch runs with frequent SKU changes.
If you run several SKUs with shared shelf positioning, VFFS with a quick-changeover former is usually the most economical long-term choice.
